Spirit Battle Nebraska in Electric Atmosphere

Avondale, Ariz. —  The top-ranked beach volleyball team faced a tough test against NCAA Division I powerhouse Nebraska Cornhuskers in a dual that featured an unforgettable atmosphere. A massive crowd surrounded the sand, creating one of the most energetic environments of the season, with strong support from both fan bases throughout the match.

The Spirit struck first in impressive fashion in the No. 2 flight, where Shea Marovich and Olga Romero earned a statement win over standout players Harper Murray and Andi Jackson. After dropping the opening set 14-21, the pair rallied back to take the next two sets 21-19 and 15-11 in a thrilling three-set victory.

In the No. 4 flight, Katy Shockey and Alicia Romero delivered another hard-fought battle. The duo took the opening set 21-19 before Nebraska responded to force a third set. Despite the effort, the Spirit pair fell just short, with the match ending 21-19, 18-21, 6-15.

Flight one featured Maya Blake and Eliana Dean taking on another strong Nebraska pairing. The Spirit duo competed well but ultimately fell in straight sets, 12-21, 15-21. Shayna Martinez and Railey Dykstra followed in the No. 3 flight, battling throughout their match but also coming up short in two sets, 17-21, 13-21.

The final flight of the dual brought plenty of energy from the crowd as Gabriela Corrales and Marielle Ramos stepped onto the sand. After dropping the opening set 20-22, the Spirit duo rallied back to win the next two sets 21-17 and 15-11, igniting cheers from the crowd and closing the day on a high note.

While the Spirit ultimately fell to the Division I opponent, OUAZ showed resilience and competitiveness against some of the top players in college volleyball. The experience and effort on display reflected the team's ability to rise to the challenge on one of the sport's biggest stages.
