Avondale, Ariz. — The top-ranked beach volleyball team continued its strong play with a convincing victory over Wayland Baptist, earning wins across the lineup through a mix of physical battles and dominant performances on the sand.
The Spirit opened the dual in the No. 1 flight with a hard-fought match, as Maya Blake and Eliana Dean battled through three physical sets to secure the point, winning 21-13, 18-21, 15-13. Shayna Martinez and Railey Dykstra followed with a commanding performance in the No. 2 flight, controlling the match from start to finish in a straight-sets victory, 21-12, 21-18. In flight three, Shea Marovich and Olga Romero delivered another key win for OUAZ, taking the match 21-19, 21-9.
The intensity continued in the No. 4 flight, where Gabriela Corrales and Katy Shockey fought through a physical three-set battle to earn the win, 21-18, 19-21, 15-10. Marielle Ramos and Leah John added a dominant straight-sets victory in the No. 5 pairing, winning 21-13, 21-15 to further extend the Spirit's lead. In the final flight, Amber Cerny and Sam Baer capped off the dual with a strong performance, winning 28-26, 21-13.
With the win over Wayland Baptist, the Spirit showcased both toughness and depth across all flights, continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
