BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ. – The third-ranked OUAZ men's golf team played in an ultra-competitive tournament, matching up with 16 other squads at The Battle. The Spirit played well in all three rounds, finishing second as a team and having three players finishing in the top 25.
Kolby Shackelford finished fourth, putting together excellent opening and closing rounds. Shackleford tied for the best score in the first round, a top-five score in the final round, and finished the tournament tied for the most birdies at 15.
Colby Watkins tied for 11th, with his best 18 holes coming in the first round. Watkins had two eagles in that opening round, and finished tied for the most eagles amongst all golfers.
Nick Lippe made a 20-spot jump up the individual leaderboard on Tuesday, going -2 in the final round to finish inside the top 25. Lippie made six birdies over the final 18 holes, and finished the tournament with 10 total.
Ian Bailey had a solid final round as well, moving up on the last day to finish in the top half of the ultra-competitive field. Alex Castelo had his best round on Monday, shooting 73 (+1) in the second round of the day. Kaiden Nicholson and Gustav Sandstrom finished with matching scores, and Sandstrom also had a 73 (+1) in the second round.
OUAZ will now head to Georgia for its final tournament of the regular season. The first day of the Roadrunner Classic, hosted by Dalton State, is set for Monday, April 8.
