Spirit Golf Shines at NCCAA National Championship

Palm Coast, Fla.- The Ottawa University Arizona men's and women's golf teams wrapped up play at the 2025 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship, held October 20–22 at the Hammock Beach Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida. It was a banner week for the Spirit, highlighted by the men's team capturing the NCCAA National Championship title.

On the men's side, OUAZ finished first out of nine teams with a total score of 894 (+11). Grant Greazel led the way with a runner-up finish at 214 (-2), followed closely by Liam Toole in fourth at 215 (-1). Both Greazel and Toole were named NCCAA All-Americans for their performances. Tytan Birchell (224, +8), Corley McLernon (225, +9), and Nick Erickson (234, +18) rounded out the scoring lineup in a balanced team effort that secured the championship. Head Coach Brady Barrett was recognized as the NCCAA 2025 Coach of the Year, adding to an already historic showing for the program.

The women's team also turned in a strong performance, finishing fourth out of six teams with a combined score of 975 (+111). Jayda Sidney paced the Spirit with a top-10 finish, placing 10th individually at 241 (+25). She was followed closely by Macie Doherty (242, +26, T-11th), Jenney Kim Song (246, +30, T-17th), Anne Van Hemert (248, +31, T-19th), and Chiara Israng (250, +34, T-22nd).

Both teams were recognized for their excellence in the classroom as well, with several Spirit golfers earning NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors. The men's honorees included Kevin Arevad, Tytan Birchell, Hayden Hah, Jan Labonte, Corley McLernon, Ryan Montoya, Tysho Tano, Kostas Tsantarakis, and Emmett Woodland. On the women's side, Chiara Israng, Jenney Kim Song, Jesi Odom, and Anne Van Hemert were named Scholar-Athletes.

"I am really proud of the guys finding a way and playing our best round this fall." Coach Barrett said, "285 on a tough course is an amazing accomplishment and great momentum going into our last fall tournament. I'm excited for the spring season as we get closer to the conference championship! I am huge on giving my players great experiences and this a week they all will remember! I am also proud of our women's team for how well they played their final round! I am the lucky one who gets to coach great student athletes at a great school with amazing support from administration! It's a great day to a be a OUAZ golfer!"

OUAZ will return to action at the ACU Invite at Verrado on November 3.
