Box Score OUAZ takes the first matchup of a two-game set against #10 British Columbia by a final score of
6-3.
Â
The scoring for OUAZ was kicked off by an RBI knock from junior Trevor Lesperance, driving in
Evan Mendoza in the bottom of the second inning. Both teams remained quiet after that until the
bottom of the fifth when Sophomore Camden Knutson roped an RBI double, bringing home two
more Spirit runs in the form of Matthew Carter and Isaiah Nava. Senior Mason Whitehead kept
the party going with another RBI single of his own to bring in Rolando Ramos Jr., leaving the
score at 4-0 in favor of the Spirit after five innings.
Â
British Columbia chipped away with a run of their own in the sixth inning, but OUAZ answered
right back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs via an error made by the UBC
Shortstop.
Â
Those would be OUAZ's final tallies of the game, and other than a subtle attempt at a comeback
in the ninth by British Columbia, it all but sealed the deal on the Spirit's biggest win of their 2026
campaign so far. Trevor Lesperance (SS), Camden Knutson (3B), and Rolen Driscoll (1B) all
recorded multi-hit games.
Â
The pitching staff in Surprise was on fire this evening. Senior Austin Humphres made his debut
and twirled 2.2 shutout frames, while setting down three hitters by way of the K. Junior Kasey
Regala followed Humphres with 2.1 innings of 1-run ball and kept up the strikeout trend with
four punchies of his own. Brayden Marcum and Josiah Dominguez would both toss a shutout
frame, leading to Diego Quinonez locking down the save.
Â
The Spirit will face off against British Columbia again on February 5th, at 5 PM (MST), on
Royals Field 6, looking to sweep the two-game series against a ranked foe
