Spirit Sweep Doubleheader Against Mustangs, Will Go For Series Sweep in Season Finale

Surprise, Ariz.-- OUAZ Baseball delivered a dominant showing on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against The Master's to secure the series victory and lock in the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GSAC Tournament. With the pair of wins, the Spirit improve to 35-14 overall and 19-8 in conference play.

Game one saw OUAZ erupt early and never look back in a 12-1 run-rule victory. The Spirit plated seven runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded walk from Joel Esparza and a three-RBI double from Evan Mendoza. Isaiah Nava and Kasey Regala each drove in runs during the frame as OUAZ capitalized on early opportunities. The offense stayed aggressive, adding four more runs in the fourth, including a two-RBI triple from Mendoza, who finished with five RBIs on the game. On the mound, Micah Del Rio was sharp, tossing 5.1 innings of one-run ball while striking out six to earn the win, while Jackson Brenna closed it out with 1.2 scoreless innings.

In game two, the Spirit leaned on timely hitting and a complete-game effort from Diego Quinonez to secure a 5-2 victory. OUAZ struck first in the opening inning on an RBI double from Camden Knutson, but The Master's briefly took the lead in the third. The Spirit responded in the fifth, as Knutson delivered again with a two-RBI double to reclaim the advantage. Trevor Lesperance added insurance in the sixth with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2. Quinonez handled the rest, going the distance while allowing just two runs—none earned—on five hits with seven strikeouts.

With the series already secured, OUAZ will look to complete the sweep in the regular season finale tomorrow against The Master's. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at KC Royals Practice Field 6.
