Mesa, ARIZ.- The Spirit played a hard-fought game in the second game of GSAC play but ultimately came up short in a 1-0 loss in Park-Gilbert (2-3-1 Overall, 1-0-0 Conference). The loss puts the Spirit at 1-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in GSAC play through their first five games of the young season
The defenses came to play, as we saw strong defensive performances from both teams throughout the first 86 minutes as the Spirit and the Buccaneers were locked in a 0-0 tie. The Spirit would end the game with three shots and three saves, while the Buccaneers would end with 11 shots and two saves.
Park-Gilbert would score with a goal in the 87th minute of play by Monty Almaliky (2), assisted by Jake Fitzgerald. This would result in the end of the defensive battle, as the Spirit would lose the game 1-0.
The Spirit will return home on Thursday, September 18th, as they take on Embry-Riddle (1-2-0 OVR, 0-1-0 GSAC), for a 7:30PM (MST) start. After that, the Spirit will not return to action until Thursday, September 25th, when they host Park-Gilbert for a rematch at 7:30PM (MST).
