Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team fought hard in a physical contest on Thursday night at Spirit Field but fell 0–2 to Benedictine Mesa, with the Redhawks striking once in each half to hand the Spirit the defeat.
The Redhawks struck first in the opening half, breaking through the Spirit defense to grab a 0–1 advantage. OUAZ responded with energy, generating chances of their own and matching Benedictine's physicality, but couldn't find the equalizer before the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern as the Spirit continued to press forward, battling to level the match. However, Benedictine Mesa doubled its lead with another goal midway through the half, putting OUAZ in a deeper hole. Despite continued effort and stretches of strong possession, the Spirit were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
In the end, the Spirit's effort wasn't enough to overcome the Redhawks' two-goal cushion. The 0–2 loss highlighted OUAZ's grit and resilience in a physical matchup, though the team will look to sharpen its attack as they move forward in the season.
