Victor Rojas Named Baseball Assistant Head Coach

OUAZ is proud to announce Victor Rojas as the new Assistant Head Coach for the baseball program. This appointment is effective immediately.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Victor and his lovely wife Kim to the OUAZ Baseball family," Spirit baseball head coach Tim Montez said. "Victor brings with him a vast array of baseball experience at all levels that will help him thrive as our new Assistant Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, as well as a hitting and catching coach. More importantly, he is a man of God and our student-athletes will benefit greatly from his mentorship both on and off the field."

Rojas will take over on the staff for Jeff Fallon, has been a part of the OUAZ Baseball program since 2020. Fallon will stay at OUAZ, moving into an exciting role as the Leadership Program Manager and remaining an important member of the baseball program.

"I want to thank my former Associate Head Coach Jeff Fallon for his tireless work he invested into our program over the last several years," Montez said. "Jeff will still be a part of our program in a part-time role as the Director of Baseball Operations as he embarks in his new position on campus."

Most recently, Rojas has worked as a broadcaster for ESPN, working college baseball games for the storied sports network.

"I am deeply grateful that Coach Montez considered me, my background, and my experience for this position," Rojas said. "Tim has built something special at OUAZ, and I am honored to be a part of it. I look forward to contributing to the continued development of our current and future student-athletes, as well as the baseball program in Surprise. God works in mysterious ways, and I cannot to get started."

Prior to ESPN, Rojas was the President of the Frisco RoughRiders, the AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers. He also worked 11 seasons on Fox Sports West for the Los Angeles Angels, where he was a play-by-play broadcaster, as well as working pre-game and post-game shows. Rojas earned a Los Angeles Area Emmy for his work in 2018.

Rojas made baseball history on January 1, 2009, when he was the first personality to ever appear on the MLB Network. In his time at the league's television station, he led the signature shows MLB Tonight and Quick Pitch, as well as the play-by-play announcer for several of the network's weekly games.

Rojas has worked for two other major league teams prior to joining MLB Network, featuring as a broadcaster for the Rangers (2004-2008) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2003). He made appearances as a broadcaster on both radio and television in that five-season stretch, and served as a marketing representative for those teams away from the microphone.

Before joining the booth at the major league level, Rojas was the VP of Baseball Operations for the Newark Bears, an independent professional team. Rojas handled all roster management decisions, signing a number of former MLB players while also overseeing daily business operations.

Rojas is a man of many talents, as he as held a number of jobs throughout his decorated sports career. From a minor league baseball player, to a bullpen catcher, to a sales manager and VP of Marketing, Rojas brings a wealth of experience from many different areas to OUAZ.

Rojas and his wife Kimberly have three children and one grandchild. His daughter Brianna and granddaughter RJ live in Southern California, his daughter Mattingly lives in Phoenix, and his son Tyler is currently playing baseball at Johnson University in Knoxville, Tenn.
