The OUAZ men's soccer team is looking to get back to winning ways in 2024, trying to ascend to the top of a revamped GSAC and make another appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. The Spirit have an infusion of new and returning talent, a solid group that will make a run toward the national spotlight once again.
Among the key returners is 2023 All-GSAC defender Aleem Barclay, who will continue to be the steady player on the Spirit's back line. Offensively, Jamaine Turner, who put up six goals and four assists last year, and Ingram Kusaloka, who contributed four goals and a pair of assists, will lead the charge as OUAZ looks to fill up the net often.
New faces that will look to contribute immediately include Ron Neftali, a junior-college transfer midfielder, and Adam Hatuel, a defender that had a chance to work with the returners in the Spring. Up front, Alvaro Hormigos is another JC transfer from Arizona Western that will help power the OUAZ offense.
This year's schedule sees the Spirit match up with new conference members who they have seen often in the past. OUAZ will now play Benedictine Mesa, Park Gilbert and Embry-Riddle under the GSAC banner on two separate occasions, as well as play familiar conference members Arizona Christian, The Master's, Life Pacific and Hope International in a pair of matches.
The non-conference schedule will be a good test for where OUAZ stands early on, as they play four games before the GSAC schedule starts. Before heading to Oregon for a pair of tough contests, the Spirit will host Stanton on Tuesday night.
