SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Spirit fought through an intense GSAC match up on Saturday, earning a 2-2 draw with Hope International behind goals from Jesus Torres and Carlos Rodriguez, and a standout performance in goal from Hayden Millard.
Hope International struck first, finding the net in the 3rd minute to grab an early lead. The Spirit responded with composure and pressure in the attacking third, eventually drawing a penalty in the 35th minute that Jesus Torres calmly converted to even the score. The momentum carried into the second half when Carlos Rodriguez buried a long-range strike in the 50th minute, assisted by both Nickolas Linares Dominguez and Jesus Torres, giving the Spirit a 2-1 advantage. Hope answered quickly with a penalty goal of their own in the 56th minute to level the match once more.
Goalkeeper Hayden Millard was exceptional between the posts, recording 13 saves — a mark that ranks second all-time in program history. His commanding presence helped the Spirit secure the draw in what proved to be a thrilling, back-and-forth conference battle.
