Box Score SURPRISE, ARIZ. – Following its big series victory over ACU last weekend, the OUAZ baseball team returned to action against SAGU American Indian College on Tuesday. The Spirit had control of the game from the start, and scored eight runs over the six and seventh innings to earn a run-rule 11-0 victory over the Warriors.
The game ended on a walk-off triple by Christian Powell, whose deep drive to left slammed off the top of the wall and fell back into the ballpark. There was some confusion as to if the ball actually hit the scoreboard beyond the fence, but either ruling would have ended the game via run rule.
Powell had only two at-bats on Tuesday night, but he made the most of them. He drove in six runs on two hits, as he had another bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning.
While the Spirit offense was great, the pitching was just as good in the contest. OUAZ pitching allowed just three hits, and struck out 11 Warrior batters over the seven innings. Brock Arnold led the team with four strikeouts, and earned his first win of the season.
OUAZ will re-enter conference play, starting with a huge doubleheader against The Master's on Friday evening. First pitch of the doubleheader on Royals Field 6 at the Surprise Spring Training Complex is set for 4 p.m.
