BREMERTON, WASH. – The sixth-ranked OUAZ men's golf team competed in another great tournament as the end of the Fall draws near, taking part in the University of British Columbia Men's Invitational. Three Spirit players finished inside the top five, and OUAZ finished second following the three-round event.
Grant Greazel finished tied for third, shooting better in each round to continue his move up the individual leaderboard. The Spirit newcomer really shined in the final round, shooting a 68 (-4) thanks to three birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole.
Tied with Greazel was teammate Gustav Sandstrom, who used matching 69 scored to stay with the leaders through the entire tournament. Sandstrom had the second-most birdies in the entire tournament, and was a top-four scorer on par 3s and par 4s.
Kolby Shackelford did not post a score over par in the three rounds, using that consistent play to finish tied for fifth. Shackelford played well on par 4s, shooting -1 on all such holes in the tournament while also shooting the third-most pars.
Nick Erickson had a good day on Monday, shooting a 71 and 72, respectively, to help him finish tied for 12th. Hayden Hah improved his score in each round, posting three birdies in the final round and finishing in the top 25.
The Spirit will wrap up its Fall season with a tournament back in the Valley, participating in the Firestorm Fall Invitational. The first two rounds from the Verrado Golf Club are set for Monday, Nov. 4.
