NASHVILLE, TENN. – The No. 13 OUAZ men's golf team took another trip across the country to play in a top tournament, this time participating in the Music City Classic hosted by Cumberlands University. The Spirit finished the first day just a couple shots off the lead, then put out an impressive six-under final round as a team to take home the championship.
The -6 round as a group for OUAZ was not only by far the lowest of any team, but it was also the only team round under par on Tuesday. The Spirit were also the only team to finish under par in the three-round total, and were eight shots better than second-place Trevecca Nazarene.
OUAZ had three of its golfers finish in the top 8, led by Kolby Shackelford who finished fifth. Shackelford was three-under on Tuesday, using his fantastic effort to jump eight spots up the individual leaderboard.
Gustav Sandstrom had the best individual final round, shooting a 67 (-5) to get himself tied for eighth. Sandstron had six birdies on Tuesday, with five of those coming in the last 13 holes of the day.
Nick Erickson finished tied for eighth with Sandstrom as well, putting up a round of 71 on Tuesday to cement his spot in the top 10. Erickson had nine birdies on the tournament, including four in the final round to go with his five from Monday.
Julian Trost had an excellent first two rounds on Monday, posting a -2 while racking up seven birdies and an eagle. Hayden Hah improved shot better in his final two rounds than he did the first, and also had six birdies on the tournament.
The Spirit will next take part in the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Men's Invite, taking a trip to the Pacific Northwest for another top tournament. The first two rounds from the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. is set for Monday, Oct. 21.
