SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The No. 13 OUAZ men's golf team took the course for its home invitational, taking on great competition at Sterling Grove Golf Club. The Spirit battled with No. 9 Marian all tournament long, and placed second as a team thanks to four of its players finishing in the top 16.
Nick Erickson was the highest finisher for OUAZ, coming in sixth. Erickson put together his best round on the final day, shooting a 69 (-3) as the second-best round among the field.
Julian Trost finished tied for seventh, strengthened by his rounds of 72 and 71, respectively, on Monday. Kolby Shackelford finished 15th playing mostly even while also putting in five Birdies and an Eagle.
Possibly the best moment of the tournament of Hayden Hah, who scored a hole-in-one off the seventh tee during his first round on Monday. Hah continued that momentum into his second round, where he shot three-under (69) on the strength of five Birdies.
Two OUAZ teams played in the annual home tournament, and that 'B' team finished tied for 4th with Arizona Christian. Guatam Potdukhe had a fantastic start, shooting a 69 (-3) in the first round and finishing tied for 11th.
In that 11th spot was teammate Kevin Arevad, who's best round was an even-par in the final 18 holes on Monday. Playing as an individual, Jan Labote finished tied for 21st, playing a consistent three rounds to stay among the top third of the individual leaderboard.
The Spirit will now head to Nashville to compete with another great field of teams, playing in the Music City Classic hosted by University of the Cumberlands. The first two rounds of the event is set for Monday, Oct. 7.
