OUAZ Drops Both Games of Doubleheader to Start Weekend

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The first day of its weekend series with No. 14 Hope International saw the OUAZ baseball team drops both games of the doubleheader. Hope International started the day with a 5-4 win, and then the Royals took the nightcap 7-4.

OUAZ ended the day with a 17-26 overall record and 8-17 in the GSAC.

GAME 1: Hope International 5, OUAZ 4
OUAZ took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning on RBI hits from Randall Hutson and Adrian Salazar, but the Royals countered with three in the top of the third to tie the game at 4-4.

It took until the ninth inning for either team to cross the plate again. Hope would take the late lead on a squeeze play and then retire the Spirit to secure the win.

OUAZ managed just four hits in the game, with two from Hutson.

Tyler Bare provided the Spirit with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

GAME 2: Hope International 7, OUAZ 4
Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the third, OUAZ scored four times behind a bases loaded walk from Ben Lewis, a fielder's choice and an error with Casey Downs at the plate, and a sacrifice fly from Deon Reese.

The Royals again answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to cap the scoring for the day.

Lewis, Caleb Schorr, and TD Walker picked up the three hits in the game for the Spirit.

OUAZ and Hope International will complete the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. in Surprise Stadium.
