Spirit Clinch GSAC Title by Defeating ACU

SURPRISE, Ariz. – By defeating Arizona Christian 4-0 on Tuesday, the OUAZ women's tennis team clinched the GSAC regular season title for the first time in program history.

OUAZ (11-7, 7-1 GSAC) set the program record with its fifth consecutive win.

The Spirit used wins in the No. 1, and No. 2 doubles matches to score the first point of the day. OUAZ trailed doubles 1-0 when Giulia Leali & Antonia Kostoff won the No.2 match 6-1. The No. 1 pair of Johanna Sotelo-Mena & Paulette Careaga then claimed a 6-4 win to lock up the point.

Cassidy Clark opened the singles scoring for the Spirit with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles match. Veronica Gallardo put the match on the brink with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match.

The Spirit clinched the match – and GSAC crown – when Careaga won the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-0.

By winning the regular season, OUAZ is the No. 1 seed for next week's GSAC Tournament. They will play either William Jessup or Marymount California in the quarterfinals on April 12 at 9 a.m.
