Glendale, Ariz.-- The OUAZ Women's Tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Friday evening with a tightly contested 4–3 loss to Arizona Christian in GSAC play. With the result, the Spirit move to 2–13 overall and 1–3 in conference action as they shift their focus to postseason competition.
Arizona Christian opened the match by securing the doubles point, taking two of the three courts. The Firestorm earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 7–5 and 6–3, respectively. OUAZ's lone doubles victory came at No. 2, where Antonia Kostoff and Sienna Johnson teamed up for a strong 6–4 win to keep things competitive early. The doubles order of finish was 2, 3.
The Spirit responded with an impressive showing in singles, claiming victories on the top three courts. Martina Antich set the tone at No. 1 with a dominant 6–1, 6–2 win, while Michelle Pugh followed with a convincing 6–3, 6–2 victory at No. 2. Antonia Kostoff added OUAZ's third point with a 6–3, 6–4 straight-set win at No. 3, giving the Spirit a 3–1 advantage in singles play at that point.
However, Arizona Christian rallied on the remaining courts to secure the team victory. The Firestorm picked up straight-set wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to edge out the 4–3 result. Sienna Johnson battled at No. 4 before falling 6–4, 6–1, while Nikola Rusinova kept her match competitive at No. 5, dropping a 7–5, 6–3 decision.
Despite the narrow loss, OUAZ showed strong form at the top of the lineup, with three straight-set singles victories highlighting the team's potential heading into postseason play.
The Spirit will now turn their attention to the GSAC Tournament, which is set to begin Thursday, April 23.
