Baseball Game Notes -- Week 11

This weekend, the OUAZ baseball team will host San Diego Christian in a four-game series at Surprise Stadium with a GSAC Tournament berth still in play. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Spirit will recognize its senior class before the second game on Saturday.

OUAZ enters the final regular season weekend with an 18-28 overall record and has lost six of seven. The Spirit is currently 9-18 in GSAC play to sit in seventh place. They trail William Jessup on one in the loss column for the final spot in the conference tournament.

OUAZ is batting .245 with a .726 OPS. The team is scoring 5.85 runs on 7.57 hits per game. They have scored in double figures 12 times and had 10-plus hits in a game 10 times. The 40 home runs are a new single-season program record, and they have hit three-plus homers in a game six times.

Adrian Salazar is having an All-American type season with 63 hits and a .377 average. Salazar leads the GSAC with 14 home runs and is third with a 1.154 OPS while ranking sixth in average and eighth with 44 RBIs. He has 20 games with multiple hits and 13 with multiple RBIs to go with five multi-home run games.

Nathan Tarver is second on the team with 35 hits while posting a .330/.387/.491 slash line. He has nine doubles, two home runs, and 24 RBIs with 22 runs scored. His 10 multi-hit games are second-most on the team.

Deon Reese has posted 29 hits for a .271 batting average. He has picked up eight doubles and 21 RBIs.

Rene Brockman has 27 hits with four home runs, 18 RBIs, and a .270/.364/.440 slash. Jacob Griffin has four home runs and 19 RBIs. TD Walker has driven in 17 runs. Micah Barkenhagen has scored 17 runs and has 11 RBIs.

The OUAZ pitching staff carries a 6.83 ERA and 1.79 WHIP. The team averages 8.11 strikeouts per nine innings to rank sixth in the conference, and opponents are batting .306.

Anthony Quattrocchi has a team-best 44.1 innings pitched and holds a 2-4 record and 6.50 ERA. He is sixth in the GSAC with 57 strikeouts while averaging 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings with a .279 opponents average.

Hayden Sandman is 4-3 with a 5.40 ERA and 35 strikeouts. Tyler Bare has thrown 38.1 innings in 18 appearances (six starts) with a 4.23 ERA with 25 strikeouts. Tanner Fallon has posted 35 strikeouts, while Gage Johnson has 34.
