Spirit Open Tucson Week with 7-3 Win

TUCSON, Ariz. – Playing its first of five games in Tucson this week, the OUAZ baseball team picked up a 7-3 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday night at the Kino Sports Complex.

Dakota Wesleyan (4-3) scored single runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead, but OUAZ (8-14) responded with a five-run bottom of the third to take a lead they never gave back. The Spirit would add runs in their half of the sixth and eighth for the final margin.

Casey Downs drove in three runs for the Spirit, and he finished 1 for 3 with a double. TD Walker and Griffin Hagen each posted two hits and an RBI. Rene Brockman and Deon Reese both had a double.

OUAZ totaled 10 hits as a team, and they stole seven bases.

Josiah Dominguez, Hayden Sandman, and Nicholas Lustig worked the game's final six innings without allowing a run. Trevor Munch (1-0) was the winner.

The Spirit will have Wednesday off before playing twice on Thursday. They start against Jamestown at 10 a.m. before another game against Dakota Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m.
