Spirit Split Two Games in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – It was a day full of offense as the OUAZ baseball team split two at the Tucson Invitational. OUAZ took the day's first game over Jamestown 11-9 before falling to Dakota Wesleyan 13-11 in the second game.

The day ends with the Spirit 9-5 overall.

GAME 1: OUAZ 11, Jamestown 9
Adrian Salazar hit a pair of 2-run home runs on a 4 for 4 day as the Spirit defeated Jamestown. Deon Reese added four hits and two RBIs, and Nathan Tarver added two hits – including a homer – with two RBIs in the win.

OUAZ scored in six of the eight innings they came to the plate with multiple runs five times. They totaled 16 hits from nine different players. Kalani Klepfer and Jacob Griffin each had a double.  

Anthony Quattrocchi struck out eight in six innings, and he allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits. Carlos Dominguez (2-1) earned the win, and Nicholas Lustig picked up his second save.

GAME 2: Dakota Wesleyan 13, OUAZ 11
Down 4-0 after one and 9-6 through six, OUAZ rallied to take a 10-9 lead in the middle of the seventh. Tied at 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth, Matt Bezdicek hit a walk-off 2-run home run for Dakota Wesleyan.

The Spirit got home runs from Rene Brockman, Micah Barkenhagen, and Casey Downs in the loss. Barkenhagen added a triple while driving in three. Tarver and Downs also had two RBIs apiece.

OUAZ closes out its week in Tucson on Friday with a doubleheader against Jamestown in the stadium at the Kino Sports Complex. Game one is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
