Baseball Completes Week in Tucson with Split

TUCSON, Ariz. – The OUAZ baseball team closed out its week at the Tucson Invitational by splitting a doubleheader with Jamestown on Friday. Jamestown won the first game of the day 13-6 before OUAZ came back to win the second 7-4. Both games were completed in seven innings.

OUAZ ends the week at 10-16 on the season.

GAME 1: Jamestown 13, OUAZ 6
Behind a 2-run single from Jacob Griffin and a 2-run triple by Micah Barkenhagen, OUAZ trailed 6-5, heading to the seventh inning. Jamestown would score seven times in the inning to take control of the game.

Griffin would finish the game with three RBIs while Griffin Hagen added one with a double in the fourth inning. The Spirit managed just five hits in the game.

GAME 2: OUAZ 7, Jamestown 4
The finale saw the Spirit score five times in the top of the first and never look back. Griffin delivered the critical blow with a 3-run home run after Deon Reese and Barkenhagen had RBI singles in the frame. Adrian Salazar would add an RBI with a single in the second inning.

Salazar, Reese, and Randall Hutson had two hits apiece as the Spirit totaled 10 as a team.

Tyler Bare earned the win with 5.2 innings pitched and two runs allowed.

On Tuesday, the Spirit is back in action when they host Park Gilbert at 6 p.m. on KC Royals 6.
