Spirit Bats Go Silent in Series Loss to Vanguard

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The OUAZ baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader at No. 13 Vanguard on Saturday to lose the weekend series to the Lions. OUAZ fell in the first game 8-1 and then lost game two 8-0.

The results leave the Spirit at 7-14 overall and 3-9 in the GSAC.

GAME 1: Vanguard 8, OUAZ 1
Vanguard scored five runs in the bottom of the first in just two hits and never looked back. OUAZ managed just four hits in the game, one of them an RBI double from Micah Barkenhagen in the third inning for the team's only run.

TD Walker had two hits in the loss.

Gage Johnson gave up seven runs on six hits in 3.1 innings to suffer the loss.

GAME 2: Vanguard 8, OUAZ 0
The Spirit had no answer at the plate for Vanguard starter Jesus Munguia, and he held OUAZ without a hit until the sixth inning. Kalani Klepfer's single to start the sixth inning was the only hit of the game for the Spirit.

Hayden Sandman took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over 2.2 innings.

OUAZ will spend next week in Tucson, where they will play five games at the Tucson Invitational. It begins on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Dakota Wesleyan.
