Long Ball Sparks Spirit by Buccaneers

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Adrian Salazar homered twice, and Ben Lewis added his first of the season as the OUAZ baseball team defeated Park Gilbert 9-5 on Tuesday night on KC Royals 6.

Salazar now has four multi-home run games this season, and he leads the GSAC with 12 home runs total. His first on Tuesday came leading off the bottom of the first inning and tied the game at 1-1. Salazar added a second RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring two runs and putting OUAZ (15-21) ahead 4-3 in the second inning.
After Park Gilbert (9-19) again took the lead in the third inning, Salazar hit a two-run homer down the left field line to put the Spirit ahead. Lewis hit his home run in the Spirit eighth.

Once Salazar gave OUAZ the lead back, Jeffrey Gehr pitched three scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout. Tanner Fallon worked a perfect two innings with three strikeouts to notch the save. Josiah Dominguez (2-3) had four strikeouts in his two innings to get the win.

Salazar finished with two of the Spirit's six hits while scoring twice and driving in four. Nathan Tarver, Rene Brockman, Nicholas Lustig, and Lewis all had RBIs.

The Spirit will return to action on Friday when they open a weekend series with The Masters at 3 p.m. on KC Royals 6.
