Baseball Game Notes -- Week 8

The OUAZ baseball team makes its final road trip of the season this weekend as the Spirit head to Santa Barbara, California, to play a four-game series at No. 6 Westmont. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

OUAZ travels to face the conference leader with a 13-18 overall record and 5-10 in GSAC games. The Spirit is in sixth place in the conference standings after winning the series at Menlo last weekend. The team has gone 3-10 in road games and 7-13 in all competitions away from home.

OUAZ is batting .241 with a .714 OPS. The team is scoring 5.90 runs on 7.48 hits per game. They have scored in double figures 10 times and had 10-plus hits in a game seven times, with five of those happening in the past 10 games. The 25 home runs are a new single-season program record.

Adrian Salazar leads the Spirit with 41 hits and a .380 average. Salazar leads the GSAC with 10 home runs while adding one double, two triples, and 30 RBIs. He ranks ninth in the GSAC in batting average, while his .704 slugging percentage is third in the conference. Salazar has 12 multi-hit games and nine games with multiple RBIs.

Nathan Tarver is second on the team with 27 hits while posting a .321/.389/.488 slash line. He has eight doubles, two home runs, and 15 RBIs with 21 runs scored. His seven multi-hit games are second-most on the team.

Deon Reese has posted 22 hits for a .301 batting average. He has picked up five doubles and 17 RBIs.

Jacob Griffin has three home runs and 14 RBIs. TD Walker has driven in 13 runs. Rene Brockman has totaled 21 hits for a .266 average while hitting two homers and driving in 10. Micah Barkenhagen has scored 13 runs and has 11 RBIs.

The OUAZ pitching staff carries a 5.99 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. They have allowed four runs or less in five of the past six games while holding the opponent to less than 10 hits in seven straight. The Spirit average 8.63 strikeouts per nine innings, with the opposition batting .286.

Anthony Quattrocchi has a team-best 30.2 innings pitched and holds a 2-2 record and 4.11 ERA. He is seventh in the GSAC with 43 strikeouts while averaging 12.62 strikeouts per nine innings with a .186 opponents average.

Tyler Bare has thrown 28 innings in 14 appearances (four starts). He has posted a 1-0 record and 2.89 ERA with 18 strikeouts. Carlos Dominguez is 2-1 in 13 relief appearances with a 4.09 ERA.
