Baseball Picks Up Sweep to Open Series at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ baseball team opened its weekend series at Menlo by winning both games of the doubleheader on Friday at Cartan Baseball Field. OUAZ secured an 11-4 win in the opener before taking the second game 2-1.

OUAZ has now won four straight games for the first time this season and is 13-16 overall and 5-9 in the GSAC.

GAME 1: OUAZ 11, Menlo 4
OUAZ knocked around 15 hits, including four doubles and three home runs, to score in double figures for the ninth time this season and the fourth time in the past six games.

TD Walker homered in the second inning to put the Spirit ahead 2-1, and then Nathan Tarver made it 3-1 with his third-inning home run. Leading 5-2 in the sixth, OUAZ hung a five-spot with run-scoring hits Micah Barkenhagen's 2-run double leading the charge.

Anthony Quattrocchi (2-2) recorded 11 strikeouts over 6.2 innings to earn the victory. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk. Jeffrey Gehr went the final 2.1 innings, and he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

Tarver finished the game 4 for 5 with a double, homer, and two RBIs. Walker also had a double, homer, and two RBIs as part of a 3-hit game. Adrian Salazar was 3 for 4 with his GSAC-leading 10th home run and two RBIs.

GAME 2: OUAZ 2, Menlo 1
OUAZ managed two hits in the second game, but that would be enough as both drove in a run. Deon Reese singled in the top of the first to score Tarver, who had reached on an error. Then tied at 1-1 in the fifth, Jacob Griffin homered to right for the game's decisive blow.

Tyler Bare did his job on the mound for the Spirit by holding the Oaks to one run on three hits in 3.2 innings. Nicholas Lustig (1-0) worked 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his first collegiate win. Lustig allowed just two hits with four strikeouts.

OUAZ and Menlo will close out the series on Saturday with another doubleheader. Game one has been moved up to a 9:30 a.m. start time.
