Late Innings Doom Spirit at BenU

MESA, Ariz. – The OUAZ baseball team saw its recent struggles continue in a 12-2 loss at Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday evening at Gene Autry Park.

OUAZ (6-11) got an RBI double from Rene Brockman in the top of the first but failed to score again until the seventh inning. After Benedictine Mesa (11-9) tied the game in the bottom of the second, the Redhawks scored four in their half of the sixth and seven more in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Brockman finished with two of the Spirit's six hits. Micah Barkenhagen drove in the team's second run with a pinch-hit single.

Nicholas Lustig pitched two scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts.

OUAZ now travels to Costa Mesa, Calif., where they will play a four-game series at Vanguard on Friday and Saturday in a rematch of last season's GSAC Championship Series.
