Baseball Game Notes -- Week 2

STORYLINES
With the first week of play complete, the OUAZ baseball team will quickly move into another busy week that will see the Spirit play five games. The action begins on Tuesday with the second of four mid-week games against Park Gilbert at 5 p.m. They will then host a four-game series against Corban on Thursday-Saturday with a doubleheader on Friday. All of this week's game will be played on KC Royals 6.

OUAZ will bring a 2-2 record into the week. After defeating Park Gilbert in the season opener, the Spirit went 1-2 against Embry-Riddle to even its record.

Through four games of the season, the Spirit is batting .235 with a .726 OPS. They totaled 31 hits last week, but 22 of those came in the two wins. The Spirit delivered nine extra-base hits, including three home runs.

Brian Camacho is the team's leading hitter with a .455 batting average, and he is one of two players with five hits.

Nathan Tarver also had five hits with a pair of doubles and five RBI. He had a hit in all four games and is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak dating back to last season.

Adrian Salazar hit a pair of home runs and knocked in seven runs. Deon Reese also has seven RBIs.

The OUAZ pitching staff posted a 5.50 ERA with the opposition hitting .318 in the season's first four games. The staff saw 14 different pitchers take the mound last week, with nine pitchers making multiple appearances.

Hayden Sandman threw seven innings in two appearances (one start) and allowed no runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. He held the opposition to a .208 batting average while walking four.

Josiah Dominguez pitched 4.0 innings in three appearances with a 2.25 ERA, and one save. He recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits.

Juan Navarrete worked 2.2 scoreless innings in his two appearances with three strikeouts.
