Bats Slowed by Eagles’ Ace

SURPRISE, Ariz. – One night after scoring 17 runs, the OUAZ baseball team ran into the ace of the Embry-Riddle staff and had few answers in a 6-2 loss at Surprise Stadium.

OUAZ (2-1) scored a run in the first on a sacrifice fly from TD Walker and then added another in the fourth with an RBI single from Randall Hutson. That was all the Spirit could produce as they were held to just four hits while striking out 14 times.

Hayden Sandman threw five shutout innings with just three hits allowed and seven strikeouts in taking a no-decision. Brandon Smith (0-1) gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss.

Hutson recorded two of the Spirit's four hits. Nathan Tarver had a double, and Casey Downs picked up the fourth hit.

OUAZ and Embry-Riddle will play the rubber match of this three-game series on Saturday, with first pitch at Surprise Stadium scheduled for 1 p.m.
