Baseball Game Notes -- Week 4

The OUAZ baseball team returns to GSAC play this weekend with a four-game series at Arizona Christian. The team will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at Canyon View High School in Waddell, Arizona. First pitch on both days is at 4 p.m.

OUAZ will bring a 6-6 overall record into the series with its crosstown rivals. The Spirit is 2-2 in GSAC play and in a four-way tie for third place in the conference standings. Friday's games will be the first road games of the season for the team.

The Spirit is batting .245 with a .756 OPS in the season's early stages. They are scoring 6.92 runs per game while posting 7.58 hits per contest. Those hits have delivered 33 extra-base hits with 19 doubles and nine home runs.

Adrian Salazar leads the Spirit with 14 hits and a .368 batting average. Salazar has a double, two triples, and three home runs while driving in 12. His .737 slugging percentage is fifth in the GSAC. Salazar enters the weekend 11 of 24 during his current eight-game hitting streak.

Nathan Tarver is second on the club with 10 hits while batting .273 with five doubles and eight RBIs. He started the season with a seven-game hitting streak, making it 10 straight when going back to last season.

Deon Reese has driven in 10 runs with six hits and a .273 batting average. Nicholas Lustig has two home runs in 21 at-bats. Jacob Griffin has driven in seven.

The OUAZ pitching staff maintains a 5.42 ERA and 1.67 WHIP through 12 games played. They average 8.91 strikeouts per nine innings, with an opponent batting average of .288.

Gage Johnson is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.00 after going 6.2 innings in his season debut last Friday. Johnson allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts.

On Saturday, Anthony Quattrocchi set an OUAZ record with 12 strikeouts in his season debut. In 6.0 innings, Quattrocchi allowed just one hit to earn the win.

Josiah Dominguez leads the staff with 15 strikeouts. Jeffrey Gehr has allowed just one unearned run with eight strikeouts in six innings of relief. Tyler Bare has worked 10.2 innings with a 1.69 ERA.
