Baseball Game Notes -- Week 3

Fresh off winning its series against Corban last weekend, the OUAZ baseball team begins conference play with a four-game series with William Jessup this weekend in Arizona. The GSAC Series of the Week begins with a doubleheader on Friday at KC Royals 6, starting at 3 p.m. The teams will then meet for two games at Centennial High School in Peoria on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

OUAZ will start GSAC play with a 4-4 overall record, having played all eight games at home. According to the preseason poll released by the league coaches, the Spirit was picked to finish fifth in the conference by the league coaches according to the preseason poll released by the GSAC last month.

The Spirit is batting .240 with a .735 OPS on the young season. They are scoring 7.38 runs per game while posting 7.75 hits per contest. Those hits have delivered 20 extra-base hits with 11 doubles and five home runs.

Adrian Salazar is tied for the team lead with nine hits with a .333 batting average. He leads the club with three home runs and 12 RBIs while drawing eight walks and scoring seven runs. Salazar enters the weekend riding a four-game hitting streak.

Nathan Tarver has nine hits to match Salazar for the team lead, and he has eight RBIs. He started the season with a seven-game hitting streak, making it 10 straight when going back to last season.

Brian Camacho leads the Spirit with his .350 batting average and .552 slugging percentage. Deon Reese is batting .333 with two doubles and 10 RBIs.

The OUAZ pitching staff maintains a 5.20 ERA and 1.75 WHIP through eight games played. They average 8.87 strikeouts per nine innings, with an opponent batting average of .304.

Despite his 0-2 record, Tommy Koloski leads all OUAZ qualifiers with a 2.70 ERA in three starts. Hayden Sandman has gone 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 12 innings.

Tyler Bare holds a 1.29 ERA from the bullpen has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings of work over his last four appearances. Josiah Dominguez is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA, and one save while leading the team with 14 strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched.
