Baseball Opens Series with 6-5 Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – After once again falling behind in the first inning, the OUAZ baseball team answered with six straight runs to lead the team to a 6-5 win over Corban in the first of a four-game series.

Josiah Dominguez (1-0) went 5.1 innings with three runs allowed and seven strikeouts for his first win of the season. Juan Navarrete earned the save by working the final 1.1 innings.

Nicholas Lustig pulled the Spirit even at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. The Spirit then took advantage of several Corban (2-2-1) miscues in the field to add another run in the third and four in the fourth.

Lustig finished the game 3 for 3 with a walk. He was the only Spirit player to record multiple hits in the team's 8-hit effort. Nathan Tarver added a hit and RBI while Kalani Klepfer also drove in a run.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m. at KC Royals 6.
