Spirit Open Season with 7-0 Win over Pacific Lutheran

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's tennis team began the 2022 season with a 7-0 win against Pacific Lutheran on Monday afternoon at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. The win was the first in a season opener by the Spirit for the first time since the 2018 season.

OUAZ (1-0) took the early 1-0 lead by winning all three double matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Giulia Leali and Paulette Careaga quickly won their match, 6-0.

That was the beginning of a perfect afternoon for the duo as Leali won the No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0, while Careaga claimed the No. 2 singles by the same score.

Lyndsee Fleury clinched the Spirit victory by winning the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Veronica Gallardo won the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-0. Tiana Pritts of OUAZ took the No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4, while Maya Salamon completed the Spirit sweep by winning the No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

OUAZ is back in action on February 11 when they face Colorado Mesa at the Paseo Tennis Center in Glendale, Arizona.
