Riding Winning Streak, OUAZ to Host ACU and Visit Jessup

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ baseball looks to stay hot when they play five games this week, including an added game against Arizona Christian on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the Kansas City Royals Field No. 6 at the Surprise Stadium complex. The Spirit will then head to Lincoln, California where they will play a GSAC doubleheader at No. 24 William Jessup on Friday and Saturday at McBean Park.
 
All GSAC doubleheaders start with a 9-inning game and are followed with a 7-inning game.
 
All five games of the week will feature live video on the NAIA Network and the OUAZ Game Central portal, with the host school producing the content. The NAIA Network is available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku devices by searching NAIA. Live stats will also be available during all five games. ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ begins the week on a five-game winning streak and at 14-10 overall. They are seventh in the GSAC – and four games out of first – with a 5-7 record in conference games. The Spirit are 11-3 at home this season and 2-7 in road games.
 
The Spirit are batting .278 as a team with a .730 OPS. They average 6.00 runs per game and they have 33 doubles, eight triples, and eight home runs. Their eight triples are second-most in the GSAC and they lead the conference by averaging 0.33 triples per game. They also rank second in the GSAC with 69 stolen bases with a .793 stolen base percentage.
 
The Spirit pitching staff holds a 4.25 earned run average (ERA) to rank fourth in the GSAC. They have a 1.51 WHIP and .277 opponents batting average having allowed 37 doubles, six triples, and nine home runs. OUAZ has recorded 202 strikeouts to lead the GSAC at 8.42 strikeouts per game and they have issued 86 walks.
 
In the field, OUAZ has committed 37 errors with a .957 fielding percentage. The Spirit have tuned 38 double plays and they have caught 12 of 29 base stealers.
 
AT THE PLATE
Austin Shumaker will start the week with a .420 batting average where he ranks third in the conference. He has seven multi-hit games this season and has hits in 11 of the past 12 games. Shumaker has five doubles and two triples for a 1.019 OPS. He leads the team with 20 runs scored with 12 runs batted in.
 
Chandler Reynard has 25 hits with a .316 batting average while playing in all 24 games. His .883 OPS comes on five doubles, two triples, and one home run. Reynard has scored 19 runs with 11 RBI with eight multi-hit games.
 
Esteban Martinez has recorded 25 hits and holds a .305 batting average. He closed the San Diego Christian series by going 5 for 7 with four runs scored on Saturday. Martinez has 14 runs batted in and two doubles.
 
Adrian Salazar is batting .297 with five doubles, a triple, and a home run.
 
Chuck Steele start the week with a .295 batting average and he leads the team with two home runs. Steele leads the GSAC with 17 stolen bases which ranks tied for fifth in the NAIA.
 
ON THE MOUND
Travis Hawkins will enter the week with a 4-2 record and he is tied for seventh in the GSAZ with a 3.07 ERA. His 30 strikeouts lead the team and he holds opponents to a .214 batting average.
 
Zack McLeod earned two wins last week to even his record at 2-2 on the season. He has a 3.20 ERA in 25.1 innings and started the program's first-ever shutout last Monday against Bemidji State. McLeod has 28 strikeouts and is seventh in the GSAC at 9.96 strikeouts per game.
 
Miguel Cirino is 1-2 with a 3.67 ERA and two saves. He leads all OUAZ qualifiers with a .196 opponents batting average. Cirino has tallied 26 strikeouts with a 1.11 WHIP.
 
Cole Anderson carries a 2-2 record and 4.55 ERA in his 27.2 innings. Anderson has posted 23 strikeouts and only four base on balls.
 
Taylor Campos leads the Spirit with 11 appearances, all out of the bullpen.  He holds a 0.64 ERA with two saves. In 14 innings on the hill, Campos held opponents to a .178 batting average with 11 strikeouts.
 
ABOUT ARIZONA CHRISTIAN
Arizona Christian will enter Tuesday's non-conference games with a 15-14 overall record having won five of their last seven outings. The Firestorm are batting .316 with a .824 OPS and 14 home runs. They hold a 5.67 ERA and a .279 opponent batting average.
 
OUAZ leads the all-time series against the Firestorm 6-2, including a 2-1 record this season. They are 4-2 in meetings as the home team.
 
ABOUT WILLIAM JESSUP
No. 24 William Jessup begins the week with a 15-8 overall record and they are fifth in the GSAC with their 9-7 record. They are third in the conference with a .311 batting average while holding a .915 OPS with 30 home runs. The Warriors have a 6.04 ERA and .300 opponent batting average.
 
This weekend's series will mark the first-ever meetings between the two programs.
