WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association's 2019 Regional Coach of the Year winners were announced today and Mike Nesbitt from OUAZ football is the NAIA Region 5 recipient. He will be honored at the American Football Coaches Awards, on Tuesday, January 14, during the 2020 AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
 
Nesbitt guided the second-year OUAZ program to a 9-2 overall record and an appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series. The Spirit finished 7-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference to win the program's first-ever conference title.
 
In two seasons guiding the Spirit, Nesbitt has a 16-6 overall record. This season the Spirit are fourth in the NAIA in scoring offense and fifth in passing offense.
 
By receiving the region award, Nesbitt is now a finalist for the AFCA/NAIA National Coach of the Year award that will be presented at the AFCA Awards on January 14.
