SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's and women's track and field team competed in the Point Loma Nazarene University Collegiate Invitational Saturday. The Spirit finished in the top five in seven events.
"These athletes are really starting to see their hard work pay off!" said Coach Breanna Leslie. She continued, "We, as the coaching staff, are very proud of their performances this weekend. They represented OUAZ so well. "
Twelve athletes from OUAZ competed this weekend at the Point Loma Nazarene University Collegiate Invitational in San Diego, CA. Each one of those athletes either set a new personal record or a season-best in this meet.

The stand-out performance was
Monnie Spears-Rogers in the 200m setting a new lifetime best of 25.43. She also set a season-best in the 100m dash earning a 12.32 and a 2nd place finish. According to Coach Breanna Leslie, "Monnie's times have improved tremendously in just one week. We were freaking out during her races!"
Hannah White cleaned up in the throwing events. She finished 1st place in the Discus Throw with a distance of 39.64m and a season-best. White also competed in the Shot Put, earning a 2nd place with a throw of 12.11m.
Raiven Ellis finished 1st in the triple jump with a distance of 11.65m and set herself a new season-best.
On the men's side,
Jordan Minor finished in 1st place in the Long Jump with his season-best of 6.84m. He also set a personal record in the 100m with a time of 11.35.
"The jumpers have been very consistent this season," said Coach Breanna Leslie. She continued, "They work so hard, and I cannot wait to see how they perform at the NCCAA National Championships."
Carlos Nelson finished 8th in the Javelin throw with a season-best throw of 42.56m.
In the 400m race, OUAZ had four men competing, and all of those athletes set personal records:
Darius Allen ran a 51.19
Ben Quigley ran a 51.81
Rica Alaniz ran a 52.08
Ramon Suarez ran a 52.29
In the 100m Ed Thomas set a personal record running an 11.87, and
Luke Doerner followed with his personal record of 11.98.
The Spirit head to the California Collegiate Open at UC-San Diego March 31st to compete next.
