Box Score 2 Riverside, Calif. — OUAZ put together a complete performance on the road, sweeping La Sierra in dominant fashion with an 8-0 shutout in game one followed by a gritty 6-5 win in game two.
Game 1 — OUAZ 8, La Sierra 0
Game one was all Spirit from the start. OUAZ jumped out early in the first inning as Savannah Sutton drew an RBI walk to score Brianna Humphries, and Angelina Granado followed by getting hit by a pitch to bring in Ava Seguin. The offense kept rolling in the second inning when Brianna Humphries launched a two-run home run, scoring Kinzy Creighton, and Alexis Jimenez added an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Spirit continued to add on in the fourth inning with Savannah Sutton delivering a two-RBI single to score Elysa Moreno and Ava Seguin. OUAZ secured the run rule win when Brianna Humphries drove in Alexis Rodriguez with an RBI single. In the circle, Alexis Ayersman was dominant, tossing a one-hit shutout while striking out eight to secure the 8-0 victory.
Game 2 — OUAZ 6, La Sierra 5
Game two provided a much tighter battle, but the Spirit came through late to complete the sweep. After falling behind 2-0 in the fourth inning, OUAZ answered in the fifth. Alexis Jimenez got things started with an RBI groundout, followed by a sacrifice fly from Savannah Sutton, and an RBI single from Angelina Granado to give the Spirit a 3-2 lead.
La Sierra tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, and the score remained even until the eighth. The Spirit delivered in the clutch once again as Kinzy Creighton knocked in Nayeli Inzunza with an RBI single. Moments later, Elysa Moreno came through with a two-RBI single to score Kinzy Creighton and another run, extending the lead to 6-3.
La Sierra threatened late with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but OUAZ held strong to close out the 6-5 win. The pitching staff combined for a solid outing, with Stephanie Cortazar starting, Ava Seguin providing relief, and Alexis Ayersman earning the win after shutting down the final innings.
The sweep highlighted OUAZ's balance of dominant pitching and clutch hitting as the Spirit continued to build momentum.
