The 2023 indoor track season for OUAZ has hit the midway point after competing in a pair of meets this month. The Spirit men opened at the NAU Axe 'em Open (Jan 13) and competed this past weekend at the Paradise Valley Community College event (Jan 28).
Next Up
The team will head a few miles down the road to compete in the Gaucho Invite (Feb. 11) in Glendale. Six days later, it's back to Flagstaff for the NAU Tune Up (Feb. 17).
Who To Watch For
All track athletes work and build toward championships and OUAZ has many who are doing the same.Here are just a few to keep an eye on:
Tristan Wheeler - Expected to compete for a national qualifying mark in the 200m and high jump Recovering from a pulled hamstring right before the holidays but ran a 23.66 and jumped 6' at PVCC.
Garrett Bishop - One of our top sprinters who has a team-best 7.39 in the 60m. Has third-best time in the 200m (23.86).
Nyzhae Anderson - A sophomore who set a personal record (6'0.75) in the high jump and long jump (21' 9.5") this season.
Juan Bolanos - Senior who set a season team-best time in the mile 5:13.76 and the 3000m (11:03.38) at PVCC.
Ryan Fimbres - Potential national qualifier in the 600m, 800m and 400m. Set team best times for the season in the 200m (23.28) and 600m (1:28.04).
Michael Reshard - Freshman mid distance runner who set a season best mark (1:32.41) at PVCC.
