GREENVILLE, S.C. – The National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced on Monday afternoon their weekly winners for Player of the Week honors. The NCCAA selected OUAZ Spirit
Shamar Moreland as the Men's Indoor Track and Field Player of the Week.
"The best is yet to come with Shamar," Head Coach Wade Watkins commented. He continued, "It's a little cliché, but true. Once we can iron out some of his technical issues Shamar should be on the of the best in the country. He has raw and natural athletic ability and that will help him get better and better as he trains."
Moreland has earned this award with his performance at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Invitational at the University of New Mexico January 19
th and 20
th. Moreland jumped 7.08m on his final attempt in the long jump and gave himself the #2 rank on the NCCAA National list and 12th position overall in the event. He also ran the 200m where he also qualified for the NCCAA National Championships with a relaxed 23.02. Shamar finished his competition running second in the 4x400m helping his team finish at 3:29.55 with his 51.4 split time. That time earned the team the 11
th spot in the National rankings.
The men's and women's track and field team competes next at the Minnesota State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 26
th and 27
th. The NCCAA Indoor Championships will be hosted at Cedarville University in Cedarville, OH February 16
th and 17
th.
