2022 Women's Soccer Notes -- Week 1

The OUAZ women's soccer team will open its 2022 season with a pair of games in California. They start the season on Thursday at Saint Katherine before facing Trinity Christian on Saturday.

OUAZ enters its new season after going 14-5-3 and advancing to the championship game of the NCCAA National Championship in 2021. They finished tied for third in the GSAC with a 4-1-3 conference record. The Spirit went 6-3 on the road and 3-2 at a neutral site.

The 2021 squad led the GSAC with 58 goals scored which were good for 29th in the NAIA. They also led the conference with 192 shots on goal and 43 assists. The team averaged 16.4 shots per game with 53.3 percent on goal.

Defensively, the Spirit recorded a 0.88 goals-against-average with a .815 save percentage. They were second in the GSAC and 18th nationally with 10 shutouts.

This year's team returns 23 letterwinners from last year's group, including nine starters. Those returners accounted for 74 percent of the team's goals and 93 percent of assists. The returners took 81 percent of the shots in 2021.

Cassidi Calzaretta enters the season having led the GSAC with 14 goals and 32 points last season. The senior was named an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American and GSAC All-Conference.

Saipress Jones also returns after scoring 10 goals with six assists in 2021. Jones is the program's all-time leader, with 30 goals scored and 77 points.

Chloe Gutierrez started 12 games in goal for the Spirit last season and went 7-4-2 with three shutouts. She held a 1.01 GAA and a .818 save percentage with 1,071 minutes played.
