The march toward the conference championship starts Wednesday morning for the OUAZ women's soccer team, when they host Life Pacific at Spirit Field. It will mark the second consecutive season the Spirit will start GSAC play at home.

Life Pacific is playing its first ever season as a program, and the matchup Wednesday will be the Warriors first ever conference game. They split its first two games of the season, losing to Hope International 1-0 before defeating Saint Katherine's 2-1 last week.

Last season, the Spirit compiled a 5-3-0 record in GSAC play, good enough for fourth place. That regular season standing allowed OUAZ to host, and win, a first round game in the conference tournament before ultimately falling in the semifinals.

The Spirit got out to a 5-0 start in conference play, but dropped its final three games to fall out of a first-round bye. The GSAC is split up into two divisions this season – East and West. OUAZ plays in the East division, and defeated everyone in the division last season except The Master's. The winners of each division will play in a championship game to determine the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament.

During the five-game win streak to start the conference season, the Spirit allowed more than one goal in just a single contest. In that span, OUAZ recorded two shutouts, and a pair of 3-1 victories in Northern California weekend.

OUAZ has already seen two of its East division foes in non-conference matches to begin the season. The Spirit relinquished a 2-0 lead to eventually tie with The Master's on January 16, then defeated Arizona Christian in overtime 2-1 on January 30. It marked the first time in program history the team has played in back-to-back overtime games.

Sydnee Busby scored the overtime winner against ACU, her first goal since November 27, 2018. She led the conference in goals (19) and points (49) during the 2018 campaign, the last season she played before suiting up this year.

The team's leading scorer in 2019, Saipress Jones, thrives against GSAC opponents. She scored six goals in eight conference games last season, and added four assists during those eight contests.

No fans will be allowed inside of Spirit Field for Wednesday's match. Live video can be found at portal.stretchinternet.com/ottawaaz/, and live stats will be found at ouazspirit.com/sidearmstats/wsoc/summary.
