SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Ottawa University Arizona women's tennis team won their first match in program history on Saturday afternoon, when they defeated Mesa Community College 8-1 at the Surprise Tennis Complex.

With the victory Saturday, the Spirit begin the 2018 season with a perfect 1-0 record.
Saturday's play began with doubles, as the Spirit took all three doubles' matches. The tandem of
Julia Ortiz and
Eliza Wood won their match 8-5, while the duo's of
Hana Papaco &
Michelle Fournier and the duo of
Ariel Walsh and
Jocelyn Torres both won their matches by an 8-2 decision.
Following doubles' play, the teams moved onto singles' play. OUAZ claimed five of the six matches in singles play to take the overall victory by a final of 8-1.
OUAZÂ returns to action on Saturday February 10th, when OUAZÂ welcomes Paradise Valley Community College to Surprise, for a match-up scheduled at 11am at the Surprise Tennix Complex.
