Surprise, Ariz. – OUAZ Women's Volleyball continued their strong start to conference play Tuesday night, defeating La Sierra in straight sets inside Faith Arena. With the victory, the Spirit improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in GSAC play while remaining undefeated at home in conference action.
OUAZ used a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive plays throughout the evening to earn its fourth consecutive victory. The Spirit responded to multiple challenges from the Golden Eagles and closed out each set when it mattered most, securing the sweep in front of the home crowd at Faith Arena.
Set 1
The opening set featured several lead changes as La Sierra kept pace with the Spirit for much of the frame. OUAZ found its rhythm midway through the set behind the play of Keira Adrian, Gloria Moye, Delaney Wilson, and McKenna Diederich.
A pair of service aces from Diederich helped spark a key run, while blocks from Moye, Diederich, Elisa Saunders, and Wilson slowed the Golden Eagles attack. After trailing late, the Spirit closed the set on a strong run behind kills from Diederich and Hannah Allman to take the early match advantage.
Set 2
The Spirit settled into a groove during the second set, using contributions from throughout the lineup to build momentum. Diederich, Adrian, Moye, Wilson, and Saunders all provided points offensively as OUAZ gradually created separation.
La Sierra mounted a late push, but the Spirit responded with key points down the stretch. Adrian recorded a service ace and later delivered one of the final kills of the set as OUAZ secured a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3
The final set proved to be the most competitive of the evening, with both teams exchanging points throughout the first half of the frame.
After La Sierra gained a brief advantage midway through the set, the Spirit responded with one of their strongest stretches of the match. Allman, Wilson, Adrian, Jenna Sarff, and Diederich contributed important kills during a decisive run that swung momentum back in OUAZ's favor.
Leading late, the Spirit used strong blocking and efficient offense to close out the set and complete the sweep, improving to 3-0 in conference play.
