Spirit Respond with Grit to Earn Split Against ACU

Waddell, Arizona — The Spirit showed resilience and fight Saturday, earning a split against conference leader Arizona Christian in a competitive doubleheader in Surprise.

Game 1 — OUAZ 3, Arizona Christian 7

Game one didn't go the Spirit's way, as OUAZ fell 3-7 despite a solid offensive showing. Alexis Jimenez and Elysa Moreno each collected multiple hits, while Ava Seguin drove in a run and Nayeli Inzunza added an RBI of her own. The game remained tight early, with Kinzy Creighton and Alexis Rodriguez helping manufacture runs, but a five-run fifth inning proved to be the difference. Stephanie Cortazar and Alexis Ayersman combined in the circle, keeping things manageable outside of that one big inning.

Game two told a different story—and the Spirit made sure to finish strong.

Game 2 — OUAZ 7, Arizona Christian 3

OUAZ bounced back with a 7-3 win behind a complete team effort. Kinzy Creighton delivered the biggest swing of the day with a home run and three RBIs, setting the tone offensively. Brianna Humphries stayed hot at the plate with three hits and an RBI, while Savannah Sutton added two hits and helped keep the lineup moving. Elizabeth Luna chipped in with an RBI, and MariaFernanda Lerma contributed a key run-producing play.

In the circle, Ava Seguin was outstanding, going six strong innings to earn the win while limiting damage against one of the top offenses in the conference.

After a tough loss to open the day, the Spirit responded exactly how you want to see—composed, aggressive, and resilient. Taking one from the No. 1 team in the conference is a strong statement as OUAZ continues to push toward the postseason.
