Late-Inning Drama Headlines Doubleheader Split with Park-Gilbert

Gilbert, Ariz. — The Spirit walked away with a hard-fought split against Park-Gilbert on Thursday, showcasing both offensive firepower and late-game resilience in Mesa.

Game 1 (8 inn.) — OUAZ 9, Park Gilbert (AZ) 10

In game one, the Spirit jumped out early behind aggressive baserunning from Elysa Moreno and Kinzy Creighton, while Alexis Jimenez delivered a huge performance at the plate, including a home run and three RBIs. Ava Seguin and Angelina Granado added key contributions as OUAZ built a 7-3 lead midway through. However, Park-Gilbert chipped away and eventually used a dramatic eighth-inning rally to steal a 9-10 win, despite the Spirit reclaiming the lead moments earlier on Jimenez's clutch homer.

Game 2 — OUAZ 8, Park Gilbert (AZ) 6

Game two told a different story. OUAZ responded with composure and consistency, tallying 14 hits in an 8-6 victory. Savannah Sutton set the tone early with a two-RBI single, while Brianna Humphries and Alexis Rodriguez fueled the offense throughout. The biggest swing came in the seventh when Ava Seguin launched a three-run home run to flip the game in OUAZ's favor for good.

In the circle, Seguin, Adyson Creighton, and Stephanie Cortazar combined to shut things down late, with Cortazar closing the door to secure the win.

The split moves the Spirit to 28-14 overall and 15-7 in GSAC play as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
