Waddell, Arizona — Facing the top team in the conference, the Spirit showed flashes of grit and fire but ultimately dropped both games in a hard-fought doubleheader against Arizona Christian.
Game 1 — OUAZ 2, Arizona Christian 7
In game one, Alexis Ayersman battled through seven innings in the circle, but defensive miscues proved costly for the Spirit. Elysa Moreno led the way at the plate with two hits, while Alexis Jimenez and Adyson Creighton added key knocks to keep OUAZ competitive. Savannah Sutton manufactured a run in the fourth, and a late push in the seventh—sparked by Nayeli Inzunza, Alexis Rodriguez, and Moreno—brought home another, but Brianna Humphries' RBI wasn't enough as the Spirit fell 2-7.
Game two started with a completely different energy.
Game 2 — OUAZ 5, Arizona Christian 8
Elysa Moreno and Brianna Humphries set the tone early, getting on base and creating chaos, while Alexis Jimenez delivered a huge three-RBI double to cap a five-run inning. Ava Seguin added multiple hits, and Kinzy Creighton chipped in with an RBI as OUAZ built a strong 5-0 lead.
But the Firestorm answered in a big way.
A seven-run fourth inning flipped the momentum, capitalizing on a few defensive errors that proved to be the difference. Stephanie Cortazar took the loss despite a strong start, while Ayersman came in and steadied things late. The Spirit continued to fight, with hits from Humphries, Seguin, and Jimenez in the final inning putting pressure on, but the comeback fell short in a 5-8 loss.
Despite the results, OUAZ showed resilience against the conference's best, with standout performances from Moreno, Humphries, Jimenez, and Seguin highlighting a team that continues to compete and push forward.
