Surprise, Ariz. — It was a day full of emotion, momentum swings, and unforgettable moments as OUAZ split a doubleheader with Embry-Riddle, capping Senior Day in dramatic fashion.
Game 1 — OUAZ 4, Embry-Riddle 5
Game one didn't start the way the Spirit hoped, as the Eagles jumped out early with a three-run first inning and never fully let go. OUAZ battled back behind home runs from Brianna Humphries and Savannah Sutton to cut the deficit, and later tied things up late with clutch situational hitting. But Embry-Riddle answered in the sixth and held on for a narrow 4-5 win, handing the Spirit a tough opening loss.
Game two, however, flipped the script completely.
Game 2 — OUAZ 8, Embry-Riddle 7
OUAZ came out swinging, putting together multiple big innings and showcasing resilience as the Eagles continued to answer throughout the game. After trading blows and heading into the final inning trailing 6-7, the Spirit delivered when it mattered most. A combination of aggressive baserunning and timely hitting set the stage for a walk-off finish, securing an 8-7 victory and a split on the day.
Beyond the action on the field, the day was about honoring six seniors who have made a lasting impact on the program: Elizabeth Luna, Alexis Ayersman, Brianna Humphries, Sophie Jackson, Savannah Sutton, and Elysa Moreno. The pregame ceremony celebrated their dedication, leadership, and contributions, setting the tone for an emotional and meaningful day.
Fittingly, it ended in celebration — a walk-off win surrounded by teammates, family, and friends, followed by good food to close out a Senior Day that won't soon be forgotten.
