Surprise, Ariz. — OUAZ earned a dominant doubleheader sweep over the Nelson (AZ) Warriors, showcasing strong pitching and explosive offense in both games.
Game 1 — OUAZ 6, Nelson (AZ) 0
Game one saw the Spirit set the tone early and never look back. OUAZ struck first in the opening inning when Brianna Humphries lifted a sacrifice fly to score Elysa Moreno. The offense truly came alive in a big third inning. Ava Seguin started the rally with an RBI double to bring home Brianna Humphries, followed by Alexis Jimenez, who singled to score Seguin. Alexis Rodriguez kept the momentum rolling with an RBI triple that knocked in Jimenez, and Lilly Hutchings capped the inning with an RBI single to score Rodriguez. In the circle, Stephanie Cortazar was lights out, holding Nelson (AZ) scoreless for the entire game to secure the shutout victory.
Game 2 — OUAZ 11, Nelson (AZ) 1
Game two was more of the same dominance from the Spirit. OUAZ wasted no time in the first inning as Savannah Sutton crushed a three-run home run, bringing in Brianna Humphries and Elysa Moreno. The Spirit added more in the second inning when Brianna Humphries delivered an RBI single to score Elysa Moreno and Sophie Jackson. Nelson managed to score their lone run in the fourth, but OUAZ quickly responded. Elysa Moreno reached on an error that allowed Ashley Higdon and Sophie Jackson to score. The offense continued to pour on as Ava Seguin ripped an RBI double to knock in Brianna Humphries and Nayeli Inzunza, followed by Alexis Jimenez driving in Ava Seguin and Savannah Sutton with an RBI double of her own. In the circle, Alexis Ayersman closed out a stellar performance, as the Spirit mercy-ruled Nelson in the fifth inning.
