Spirit Showcase Strong Offensive Effort in Doubleheader Loss to Nelson

Surprise, Ariz. — OUAZ dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Nelson (AZ), falling in a pair of competitive contests despite strong early offensive production in each matchup.

Game 1 — OUAZ 5, Nelson (AZ) 7

Game one opened with Nelson jumping out to an early advantage, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. The Spirit responded immediately in the bottom half. Ava Seguin sparked the offense with an RBI double to score Elysa Moreno, cutting into the deficit. Alexis Jimenez followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Sophie Jackson and pull OUAZ within one.

The bats stayed active for the Spirit as the game moved into the middle innings. In the fourth, Jimenez delivered again with an RBI single to score Savannah Sutton and give OUAZ momentum. An inning later, Elysa Moreno drove a triple into the gap, allowing Nayeli Inzunza to cross the plate and keep the pressure on Nelson.

However, Nelson answered late, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead. Despite OUAZ's efforts to rally in the final frame, the Spirit were unable to overcome the deficit, as Nelson held on to secure the win.

Game 2 — OUAZ 6, Nelson (AZ) 9

The Spirit came out strong in game two, striking first in the opening inning. Ava Seguin delivered an RBI single to score Nayeli Inzunza, and Alexis Jimenez followed with an infield grounder that brought home Savannah Sutton to give OUAZ an early edge.

OUAZ continued to build its lead in the second. With the bases loaded, Savannah Sutton drew a walk to force in Sophie Jackson. Seguin added another RBI single, this time scoring Ashley Higdon, and Jimenez capped the inning with an RBI double to plate Sutton and extend the Spirit advantage.

Nelson chipped away in the fifth inning, scoring two runs to close the gap. The game remained in OUAZ's control heading into the seventh, but Nelson's offense surged late. The visitors erupted for six runs in the final frame to take the lead and ultimately secure the sweep.
