Spirit Win First Doubleheader of Young Season

Surprise, Ariz. —  OUAZ brings home two statement wins in dominant fashion to take the series over Bethesda. The Spirit now sit at 3-0 on the season.

Game one was a dominant performance from start to finish, as the Spirit controlled the game the entire way to open the day.

OUAZ broke the game open in the third inning with a four-run frame. Evan Mendoza provided the big swing of the inning, launching a three-run home run to give the Spirit a comfortable lead. The offense continued to add on in the fourth inning when Mason Whitehead connected on a solo home run to push the advantage even further. On the mound, Winston Roberts had an impressive outing, keeping Bethesda's offense in check and allowing the Spirit to maintain control throughout the game.

Game two showcased the Spirit's resilience, as OUAZ rallied from an early deficit to secure a 13-6 comeback victory.

The Spirit found themselves trailing 1-5 before the offense erupted in the fourth inning. OUAZ plated seven runs in the frame, completely swinging the momentum. Trevor Lesperance started the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought home Ben Ullyott. Isaiah Nava then delivered a deep single to bring in Camden Knutson and Kasey Regala. Mason Whitehead then singled to center field, allowing Evan Mendoza and Isaiah Nava to cross the plate. Capping off the inning, Rolen Driscoll followed with a sacrifice fly of his own to score Matthew Carter. The Spirit continued to build on the lead the rest of the way, closing out the win in convincing fashion.

The Spirit will return to Rangers Field 3 for one more game tomorrow against Bethesda at 11:00 AM (MST) as they look to go undefeated in the series.
